Concert Announcement: Broken Social Scene

10/16/08 The Beaumont Club, Kansas City

Another exciting concert announcement for the KC area as Broken Social Scene will be playing The Beaumont Club on October 16th. They are touring behind the great Kevin Drew solo album (Spirit If...) and the so-so Brendan Canning solo album (Something For All Of Us...). The seven piece line-up includes Brendan Canning, Kevin Drew, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman (from Apostle of Hustle), Sam Goldberg and Leon Kingstone. Great news indeed as BSS put on a fantastic live show...but no female's on tour makes me wonder if they will be playing a few live staples that require a female voice. Either way tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 2nd. I'll report back after I see them play their Lollapalooza aftershow with Yeasayer to let you know how they're sounding.

Here's what I think is the best song off Drew's album, 'Lucky Ones':

As always cruise over to the Concert Calendar to keep up to date on the worthwhile shows in the area.

New Blog Layout....and Some Rock Videos

I did a little site redesign last night...I was getting tired of the black background so I thought I would switch it up a bit. I also found some videos of a few good live performances from last weekends Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.

Here is The Hold Steady playing 'Stay Positive':

Fleet Foxes perform 'English House':

Finally, Dodos with 'Fools':

Concert Announcement: Sunset Rubdown

10/01/08 The Jackpot Saloon, Lawrence

Even though Wolf Parade isn't coming through the area for their tour, one of it's members side projects will be. Sunset Rubdown is the brainchild of Spencer Krug (who we've mentioned here before) and his lesser-known but equally-praised band be playing The Jackpot on Wednesday October 1st. Although their latest album, Random Spirit Lover, is better overall nothing on it touches 'Stadiums and Shrines II' off 2006's Shut Up I Am Dreaming. Let's hope they play it when they're in Lawrence.

TV on the Radio Announce Details For New Album Dear Science,

Stolen straight from Pitchfork are the details concerning Jeopardy of Contentment favorite TV on the Radio. Although this site didn't exist then, TVOTR's Return to Cookie Mountain was our favorite album of 2006.

The New York bands new record, Dear Science, which will be released on September 23rd on Interscope Records. The European release will be a day earlier on September 22nd on 4AD. There aren't many details other than the record title and release date (and a few tour dates not around KC) but rest assured that any news about a larger tour or more will be found here.

Also, I'd previously hadn't been able to find a copy of this picture of TV on the Radio online. It's from Entertainment Weekly and my old roommate happened to noticed the t-shirt worn by TV on the Radio singer Tunde Adiebimpe (he's the one on the far right). Anyway, HERE is the picture with Tunde's fine choice of t-shirts, make sure you click on the image to make it larger and see the text on the shirt. Lawrence Fucking Kansas!

Concert Announcement: Tokyo Police Club/The Whigs

09/29/08 The Jackpot Saloon, Lawrence

I'm guessing this is a make-up show for this past April when Tokyo Police Club had to cancel their show at The Jackpot. They'll be coming back through town with The Whigs to Lawrence on September 29th.

On a side note, this will be the third time that The Whigs will be playing in Lawrence this year. Not only that but it's the third venue as well with them playing at both The Granada and The Bottleneck previously this year.

Next Big Thing: Women

.

Hailing from Alberta, Canada this foursome is set to make a big splash in the world of "indie" music. Comparisons to Animal Collective (the track 'Lawncare') and more specifically Panda Bear ('Black Rice') are apt, but don't write them off because of that. Women take dense, melodic noise and throw it into a blender and come out with relatively pretty pop songs. Their debut self-titled album was produced by label-mate Chad VanGaleen and is out now on Flemish Eye.

Check out a couple of tracks below or head over to eMusic to get the full album.

Concert Announcement: Cut Copy

09/15/08 The Record Bar, Kansas City

Australian Dance-Pop masterminds Cut Copy will be making their way through the area when they play at The Record Bar on September 15th. We've already mentioned how great their most recent album, In Ghost Colours, is here before and if you haven't heard it yet, it's the perfect summer album. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if In Ghost Colours ends up being in our top 10 albums of the year, it's that good.
